New Years Eve in Puerto Maldonado

I haven´t had any Peruvian coffee yet. The only coffee shop at the domestic flights part of the airport this morning was Starbucks and they served Indonesian. I´m in Madre de Dios, at the base of the Andes, getting ready to go to Los Amigos Biological Station. The Puerto Maldonado market had coca much to my relief, I was concerned that the leaves of this andean shrub would not be available down here. However umbrellas were scarce, strange since this is the rainy season in the rainiest part of the basin. In Puerto Maldonado´s main plaza a fullsize boa is figured out of coleus and piripiri, an aromatic cultigen with magical properties, imagining plants as moving and powerful. The female manakins in Puerto Maldonado have impressive chests and one is Hindu.
